Moscow September 2025 — An internationally acclaimed cultural initiative titled “Weddings of the Peoples of the World Cultural Heritage” will be presented at the upcoming World Public Assembly, offering a powerful visual tribute to the universal yet diverse tradition of marriage around the globe
This cultural and educational project highlights the richness and diversity of global wedding customs while preserving the intangible heritage that defines community identity and cohesion. It invites audiences to view weddings not only as personal milestones but as profound cultural events that encapsulate shared values, spiritual traditions, and hopes for the future
Since 2015 cultural researcher and photographer Denis Knyazev has been documenting traditional wedding ceremonies in Russia Asia Africa the Middle East and Europe. His work captures authentic community rituals through immersive photo and video storytelling with materials drawn from villages tribal communities urban centers and diasporic populations. Knyazev is also the founder and director of the NGO International Cultural Dialogue
According to Knyazev the wedding ceremony represents a pivotal cultural moment when history values and community identity are passed on to a new generation. It embodies continuity strength and a vision for the future making it a natural expression of peace and unity. Presenting the project at the World Public Assembly reflects this ethos and underscores the Assembly’s commitment to intercultural understanding and global dialogue
The project’s materials including multilingual books cultural albums exhibitions and educational content have been featured in prestigious venues such as the UN Headquarters under the auspices of the Russian Federation Commission for UNESCO as well as in national museums libraries and embassies across more than twelve countries
At the World Public Assembly the exhibit will feature not only striking images and video narratives but also recorded oral histories traditional music and ceremonial attire offering attendees a fully immersive cultural experience. This aligns with the Assembly’s broader focus on the role of public diplomacy spiritual and cultural unity and humanitarian cooperation
The project also resonates with the goals of the Generation of Unity Youth Forum which emphasizes youth engagement cultural education and the transmission of values between generations. As such it contributes to a key objective of the Assembly fostering peace by elevating the cultural dimensions of human experience
Weddings captured in this project include unique cultural expressions such as Maasai rituals in Kenya Tatar blessing songs in Russia Bedouin bridal processions in Jordan and rural European folk traditions each of which reflects a deep connection to ancestry place and social structure. These images and stories are not only a preservation of tradition but a call to appreciate the humanity we share across borders and beliefs
