Pillow Talk and Money Matters: Empowering UMP Men for a Brighter Future
Mbombela, 11 March 2026 – The University of Mpumalanga’s (UMP) Great Hall was transformed into a hub of empowerment and honest dialogue yesterday as the Mordecai Ndlovu Foundation hosted its dynamic session, “Pillow Talk and Money Matters for Men Students.”
Organized in a strategic collaboration with the UMP Men’s Indaba, the Soul City Institute, and key community figures such as Mr. TJ Moakatala and Mrs. Dlamini, the event aimed to break the silence on topics often neglected in traditional academic settings: financial health and personal well-being.
A Holistic Approach to Success
The session’s title, “Pillow Talk and Money Matters,” reflected its dual focus on the intimate challenges of men’s health and the practical realities of financial management. The foundation’s goal was clear: to equip male students with the tools to navigate adulthood with both fiscal responsibility and physical vitality.
Financial Literacy: Mr. Thando from Standard Bank delivered a compelling presentation on wealth management, budgeting, and the importance of establishing healthy financial habits early in one’s career.
Men’s Health: Mr. Maseko from the Department of Health led a vital discussion on physical and mental health, encouraging students to prioritize self-care and seek professional guidance without the weight of traditional stigmas.
Community and Culture in Harmony
The success of the event was a testament to the collaborative spirit of the UMP community. The University Task Team and Peer Educators worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure seamless coordination, while the atmosphere was kept vibrant and high-energy through local talent.
Performances by Sgwiga and the renowned UMP Choir provided a cultural backdrop that resonated with the audience, proving that serious conversations are most effective when paired with a sense of community and celebration.
Looking Ahead
“We are incredibly pleased with the turnout and the level of engagement from the students,” a representative from the Mordecai Ndlovu Foundation noted. “Seeing young men take an active interest in their financial and physical health is exactly why we do this.”
The Foundation expressed its deep gratitude to all stakeholders and confirmed its commitment to future collaborations with UMP. This event marks just the beginning of a series of impactful programs designed to empower the next generation of leaders.
