In a country where water safety is often a privilege, Tiffany Miguel has transformed it into a movement of empowerment. Known as “The Black Mermaid,” Tiffany is the Founder and Director of Splash Aquademy, one of South Africa’s leading swim schools — and the only one in the world that offers a money-back guarantee on its 4-week Learn-to-Swim program.
But Splash Aquademy is more than a business. It’s a mission of transformation. Through her pioneering initiatives, Tiffany has redefined what it means to teach swimming — merging education, entrepreneurship, and social impact to change lives.
From Corporate Success to Purpose-Driven Leadership
Tiffany’s journey began far from the pool. After years in corporate marketing, she made a bold decision to leave behind the boardroom to be more present for her son. That leap of faith led her back to the water — a place that had always felt like home since her days as a child naval cadet with TS Bounty on the Vaal River.
Driven by passion and purpose, she built Splash Aquademy from the ground up. Today, the school operates three branches in Johannesburg South, empowering thousands to swim confidently and safely.
Empowering Youth Through the “Splash Soldiers” Program
Understanding that transformation begins with opportunity, Tiffany created the Splash Soldiers initiative — a first-of-its-kind program that trains disadvantaged and unemployed youth to become internationally certified swimming instructors.
The program blends physical training, life skills development, and global certification, opening doors to careers in lifeguarding, aquatic education, and safety across the world.
“Our mission is simple — to break the cycle of poverty through purpose. When you train a Splash Soldier, you’re not just teaching them to swim — you’re helping them save lives,” Tiffany shares.
The Amour Foundation: Love in Action
Beyond the water, Tiffany’s heart beats for community upliftment. She founded The Amour Foundation in honour of her late father — a man whose love continues to inspire her mission.
Through the foundation’s flagship campaign, “Get to the Bloody Issue,” Tiffany has distributed over 10,000 packs of sanitary pads and supports 1,200 girls monthly with dignity packs. The foundation’s outreach projects — from Christmas parties in Soweto to women’s health drives — restore dignity and hope where it’s needed most.
“Amour means love — and love is the most powerful thing we can give,” she says.
A Leader, Mentor, and Queen Among Queens
Tiffany’s influence extends far beyond her own ventures. As a recognized member of the Supreme Queen Honour Society, she is part of a sisterhood of women making an impact through entrepreneurship, leadership, and philanthropy. Her mentorship has empowered countless young women to rise with confidence, courage, and compassion.
Her accolades speak volumes — from Small Business of the Year 2024 (Supreme Industry Awards) to Woman in Sport 2025 (Woman of Stature Awards) and Africa’s Under 40 CEOs Award.
Formed Under Pressure, Shining Bright
Tiffany Miguel’s story is one of resilience, reinvention, and radiant purpose. What began as a mission to teach people how to swim has grown into a powerful movement of education, empowerment, and equality.
“My journey is about more than swimming — it’s about transformation,” she says. “Because I too was formed under pressure — and now, I shine like the most brilliant diamond.”
