At just seven years old, Linani Luncumo Potwana is proving that age is no barrier to making an impact on the world stage. The young dancer and model from East London, Eastern Cape, recently captivated audiences in China through both her powerful dance performance at the IPA All-Star Contest in Wuhan and her dazzling runway debut at Shanghai Children’s Fashion Week.
A Dance Performance That Lit Up Wuhan
Linani took to the international stage at the IPA All-Star Contest — one of the most prestigious global dance events — where participants from over 40 countries came together to celebrate cultural exchange through movement. Her performance, a breathtaking fusion of traditional African dance and modern choreography, commanded the spotlight.
With every movement, Linani radiated strength, rhythm, and authenticity. Judges and audiences alike praised her for her poise and originality, describing her performance as a “celebration of African identity and resilience.” Social media platforms soon lit up with messages of pride from South Africans at home and abroad, inspired by her confident and unapologetic artistry.
A Runway Moment Fit for a Queen
Shortly after her dance triumph, Linani graced Shanghai Children’s Fashion Week, part of the larger Shanghai Fashion Week, walking for Lucky Seven and MS Fashion Concept Show. She was selected for the opportunity through a competitive online audition, impressing organizers with her portfolio and presence.
Dressed in a one-of-a-kind couture gown inspired by African royalty, Linani walked the runway with elegance and joy, embodying what many described as “pure Black girl magic.” She shared that every step on that runway felt “magical,” and she cherished the friendships she made with other young models from around the world.
A Beacon of Pride and Possibility
Linani’s journey from East London to China is a testament to the power of talent, cultural pride, and opportunity. Proud mom, Ziyanda Potwana, expressed immense joy:
“It’s an incredible feeling to see her passion recognised on such a global stage at such a young age. We are extremely proud of her dedication and how she carries herself—it inspires us too.”
Looking Ahead
With her sights set on reaching the finals of Miss Mini South Africa 2025, Linani is only getting started. She dreams of growing her modelling career while continuing to share African stories through her dance.
Her story has already captured hearts around the world — not just as a young girl chasing her dreams, but as a symbol of African excellence and resilience.
