Meet Siphokazi Gabela, a passionate advocate for community development and a dedicated representative on the board of the Mordecai Ndlovu Foundation. Hailing from Sebokeng, Siphokazi exemplifies the power of young leadership in driving meaningful change through good governance, effective management, and strong leadership.
A Commitment to Excellence in Governance
Siphokazi recently completed the SAAYC Governance, Management, and Leadership Training, a program designed to empower young professionals with the skills needed to lead community organizations effectively. The training deepened her understanding of governance structures, organizational policies, strategic planning, and the importance of frameworks like the Theory of Change.
Reflecting on her experience, Siphokazi shared:
“Today, I have learned a lot about governance, including the structures, policies, and processes. The importance of logic frameworks and theory of change, and how the Board has accountability for the organization. Understanding the constitution of the organization, culture, and strategy has been invaluable. I’ve also realized the necessity of having a social worker in the area and building relationships with universities.”
Her insights will help shape the foundation’s approach to community empowerment, ensuring that decisions are guided by clear values, sound governance, and community-centered strategies.
Bridging Media and Community Development
Before joining the foundation, Siphokazi made her mark as a radio presenter at Lekoa F.M., where she used her voice to inform, inspire, and engage listeners. Her media journey continued behind the scenes as a researcher and audience coordinator on several popular shows at Moja Love.
Her background in media not only enhances the foundation’s communication strategy but also reflects her deep commitment to storytelling, transparency, and advocacy. She brings a unique perspective to the board—one that combines creative communication with a grounded understanding of grassroots needs.
Driving Change through Good Governance
At the Mordecai Ndlovu Foundation, we believe that empowered communities are built on the pillars of good governance, effective leadership, and strategic management. Board members like Siphokazi play a crucial role in shaping the foundation’s vision and ensuring its implementation aligns with the needs of the communities we serve.
Her journey is a testament to what’s possible when young professionals are given the tools and platforms to lead.
