The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has made progress in the case about the alleged leaking of the class of 2024 matric results online, which were reportedly being sold.
Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, announced the arrest of a 21-year-old man related to this leak, marking a significant advancement in the investigation.
The inquiry began after the Department of Education filed a formal complaint at the Pretoria Central SAPS on January 12, 2025, leading to the case’s transfer to the Hawks.
Mogale stated that the Hawks, executing a search-and-seizure warrant, raided a house in Hillcrest, north of Johannesburg. They found various electronic devices and an unlicensed shotgun with live ammunition. The suspect will face charges for illegal firearm possession, and the investigation into the results’ leakage will continue.
